====== Refried Beans ====== ===== Ingredients ===== * 1 can refried beans (pinto or black) * 1–2 tbsp fat: lard, bacon fat, butter, or neutral oil * 2–4 tbsp liquid: water, broth, or milk * Salt (to taste) * ½ tsp cumin * ¼–½ tsp chili powder or smoked paprika * 1 small garlic clove, finely minced (or ¼ tsp garlic powder) ===== Steps ===== - Heat fat in a small saucepan over medium-low. - If using garlic, cook it 30 seconds until fragrant (don’t brown). - Add beans and stir to coat in fat. - Add liquid a tablespoon at a time until creamy. - Simmer gently 5–10 minutes, stirring often. - Taste and salt at the end.
